Students are required to post an original entry and a reply entry to other students on the course discussion board. Each original entry should include at least one “candid” photo taken by the student during the semester.
Students will not be graded on the artistic qualities of the photographs. Students who submit photographs that are not their own work will be awarded significantly reduced credit. Each original post must also contain a 300-400-word description (see syllabus for example) of the photo that includes :
A context for the photograph, such as where the photograph was taken, what is depicted in the photograph, and what was occurring behind the frame of the photograph.
a detailed description of the sociological theories or concepts that are portrayed in the photo
a discussion of how the sociological theories or concepts are related to the photograph.
Response posts should be 200-300 words and thought of as an opportunity to help other students identify some sociological concept, perspective, or idea that is relevant to their image, but which they may have missed before. In this, students should highlight what their peers may have missed, and what a new set of eyes on the photo does to help them see the bigger picture. In general, response posts should be guided by three principles:
A response post should be substantive, posting comments or questions that enhance the discussion or help over the conversation forward. These may include follow up questions, examples, or new perspectives.
The pdfs are the courseware. You can read them.
The classmates’ photos are the photo you need to give comments. You just need to choose one of them to give a comment.
And the photo I took is the photo you mainly need to write about.
