Variable meaning of ‘Independence’ and its change in intepretation during the course of North America(1600-1876)

For the paper, you will pick a primary source (or sources, if you want to compare) from
the general geographic context  (North America, 1600-1876) and
analyze it as an example of ‘independence.’ The goal of the paper is to examine some of the
variable meanings of a man’s ‘competancy’ and ability to have ‘indepndence’ through a measure of his lifelivehood(ex. craft, land-owned, wealth) and how interpretation of those meanings depends on any number of elements: time, place, identity, etc.
A  handful of sources that  you can use is available below. You are also free to find your own source/sources  if you would prefer to analyze something different. For this paper you will:
1.) Make an Argument. Ask a question to yourself (‘how does this document reflect themes
of independence?’) and answer it. Your answer is your argument and your thesis
sentence.
2.) Support Your Answer with Evidence. Include concrete, quoted evidence from your
source(s). Don’t write in vagaries. Provide historical examples from readings. (Note: for this assignment, please cite your sources either as parentheticals or footnotes)
3.) Tell the Reader Why It Matters. What is the meaning or significance of your answer?

Why is it relevant? This is your conclusion.
4.) The response must be no less than 2000 words. Over 2000 words is fine, within reason, but under is not.
