The full topic= Throughout the term we have encountered how the Mughal state created new parameters for the lives of women, both inside and outside the imperial court. Drawing closely on our readings for this term, how would you characterize the possibilities available to women as they interacted with the Mughal empire and its administration? Your answer should address both courtly and non-courtly contexts

If you are citing from either/ both of the two encyclopedias, please cite in this way: (EI, X title e.g. “Abu’l Fazl”, year) or (Encyclopedia Iranica, X title e.g. “BADAḴŠĪ, MOLLĀ SHAH”, year)
– A list of references is not required.
– Please limit yourself to the use of the readings and databases uploaded to Modules as well as class lectures. I have added optional readings to the modules. If you feel the need to read more widely for your essay, feel free to go through these works, although reading and citing them is not a requirement and should not be done at the cost of drawing upon primary sources and materials discussed in class. Remember, this is not a research essay. It is an analytical essay that tests your ability to read closely, interpret and contextualize a given set of materials.
