Reflect:
As you have learned in this class, film is a far-reaching medium that can affect the greater fabric of our culture. Our understanding of this potential and ability to analyze it reach far beyond just this medium and into all areas of our social structures and culture. Remember, too, that the practice of closely analyzing particular films, a skill you have honed during this course, is the same practice of analysis you will find in other courses—or in learning any new skill.
Thinking of the film you’ve chosen, ask yourself the following questions:
- How does the film you’ve chosen speak to a specific sociocultural issue?
- What has been its overall effect on society, or is it a film that has personally affected your thinking?
- Why is it important that this issue is portrayed in film?
Write:
In at least 200 words, write a post in which you
- Discuss your ideas about how films engage social concerns and have lasting effects on society.
- Evaluate the evidence of this dynamic in your chosen film, analyzing story, theme, and other elements.
- Describe the sociocultural resonance you see in your chosen film.
- Assess how your chosen film has resonated in culture.
