Quality Improvement Project
This is an assignment with the purpose of actively engaging in the quality improvement process. Choose a topic from the list below:
- Pain Management
- Pressure ulcers
- Patient falls
- Nurse job satisfaction
- CAUTI infections
- CLASBI infections
- VAP infections
- Surgical site infections
- Medication errors
- Alarm Fatigue
After choosing a topic use the literature (minimum of three scholarly references within the last 5 years) to discuss the background of the problem.
Next, develop a purpose/goal statement for the outcome of your project. This statement will identify what the proposed improvement is. An example could be “The purpose of this project is to reduce surgical site infections by 50% within 6 months. In the paper, use the SMART Goal format for your purpose/goal
Following the process for improvement, design a Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) that the nursing unit can perform over a decided upon time frame.
Write a 3-4 page APA formatted paper to describe the aim of the quality improvement project and actions taken to refine the improvement over the timeframe implementation period and create a graph/chart to demonstrate the data (run-chart, bar graph…). Although you will not be conducting the PDSA, you can use hypothetical data to create your chart.
Next, develop a training and dissemination plan for the nursing and unlicensed staff to train on the new guidelines/policy and identify why this practice change is occurring.
Grading for this assignment will focus on the process developed and will not be based on the success of the quality improvement project as this is a hypothetical initiative. The graphic can be created in word or excel.
