Even before the COVID pandemic, scholars and organizational psychologists were already researching correlations and links between flexibility (more specifically flexible work arrangements) and employee engagement (Phelps, 2019; Weideman & Hofmeyr, 2020). In Spring 2020, the entire business world had to shift in the click of a finger whether they were ready or not toward a new way of working, accelerating for most companies in a hard way their digitalization, obliging employees to work from home to avoid discontinuance of business which has resulted after a few months only in a major shift in not only expectations of employees toward their working environment but also new working habits. Now that these practices of flexible work arrangements have been more largely used in most companies and have become common practice whether employees, managers and organizations wanted it or not, I would like to see what are the results and impacts on employees and companies of work flexible arrangements. My theoretical framework will be based on the development of the following hypothesis Hypothesis 1: Flexible work arrangements are positively linked to an increased employee engagement and job satisfaction. Hypothesis 2: Flexible work arrangements will be more positively associated to having a direct impact on organizational efficiency. Hypothesis 3: Flexible work arrangements have a direct impact on employee’s life domain or perceived life domain balance. Hypothesis 4: Life domain balance or perceived life domain balance by the employee act has a positive booster on employee’s engagement and job satisfaction. Hypothesis 5: A high Employee’s engagement & job satisfaction will result in a higher organizational efficiency. Hypothesis 6: It exist a two way relationship between flexible work arrangement and social and environmental external factors.

What type of flexible arrangement exist? What are the advantages of Flexible Work Arrangements (FWA) and how do companies capitalize on it? What are the disadvantages and how companies address those issues? Should companies propose to move to the 3 to 4 days per week? What general trends or future trends exist in the area?
The covid pandemic has significantly accelerated a change in employees minds and expectations with regards to their relation toward work. I would like to research in particular the aspects related to flexibility, focusing my dissertation on flexible work arrangements (FWA) and how a perceived better work-life balance is intrinsically correlated with job satisfaction and employee’s engagement. In my research I will be investigating the impact on productivity but also what are the challenges and opportunities of these arrangements in the post covid world and how both companies and employees could benefit from them with a clear implementation and the right framework. The impact of flexible work arrangements is not a new subject of study in the academic field but the originality of my research would be to investigate its impact in the post covid context. I will particularly focus my dissertation on flexible work schedule as well as telecommuting and work from home. Finally, as more and more countries, organization and companies are shifting toward a 4 to 3 days per week working schedule, I would like to analyze if this schedule could be a realistic and beneficial option to implement at a larger scale studying its effects through the lenses of perceived work-life balance, productivity and cognitive activities.
I am about to send a survey to get quantitative data on flexible work arrangement. I will then conduct interviews also on that topic and will share the results.
