Please help me write my thesis.
Introduction
-
Motivation: Context & significance of study (climate change, rising awareness on the subject: International & European policies, growing power of green parties, need to act to save the planet, businesses = problem but can also be the solution, example of promising startups to measure, optimize, reduce and offsett emissions)
-
Research Question: objectives of research (assessment of impact of offssetting startups = how much co2 are they able to compensate, is it not an attempt at greenwashing? –> real benefit to the environment (from ecological point of view) + viability of industry: is it just a trend or there are markers of a growing market with real potential (from a business point of view)
-
Litterature Review: (examine previous works on the subject, their limits and what novelty we are bringing)
-
Approach & Sources: sources used in analysis (mention approach to tackling this question -> explain the structural reasoning that leads to this outline – the sources of indormation = used to make this paper –> think tank documents…. + my internship at a Venture Capital fund where I had the opportunity to analyze this market + meeting with senior partners at that VC + insights from a meeting with a ESG partner of a real-estate multinational)
-
Limitations of the study: (mention what we could have done otherwise, what bias it creates… by focusing on carbon offsetting rather than all the industry, by choosing the particular startup, while assessing the amount of co2 offsetted)
-
Market Analysis: attractiveness of industry, factors influencing the industry (use frameworks like Porter Five Forces and PESTEL to assess different dynamics affecting the industry + an industry mapping to show who the different actors are/ types – give details on legislation & certified projects, be precise – really develop those ideas)
-
Saas Business Model Analysis: Case Study of a European offsetting startup (you choose): develop business model in detail (carbon accounting part: details about method used – description of method… + types of projects/ certifications: + detail), competitive advantage, positioning (industry-specific, size-specific?): do a strategic-group analysis graph
-
Carbon Impact: assess with methodology how much the most relevant/ biggest EU offsetting startups (series B+ / have raised more than x – what you think is relevant) have been able to offset in the last five years/ time frame you choose as relevant (goal = quantify how much carbon they have offseted relative to how much was emitted –> EU / perhaps show tables –> adding up )
-
Evaluate/ Discuss/ Challenge the quality of offsetting programs: see if the social/ environmental impact is quantifiable in same terms as promised by offsetting startups (goal = discuss quality of program, methods to evaluate offsetting score*… , challenge quality, raise questions on what additional criterias should be taken into account)
-
Review of discussed topics: goal = answer the thesis questions with elements concluding part I & II + give opinion of the future of the industry
