Task
Write a 3000-word critical assessment of how one
of the following areas of employment law affects HR practice within Amazon.
·
the
national living wage.
Portfolio Note
This
assessment has been specifically designed in such a way as to fit nicely with
the evidence you need to provide in your portfolio: PDP 22, Evidence of
when/how you have interpreted and applied specific legislation and case law and
assessed its impact.
Intended Learning Objectives
(ILO) assessed:
ILO 3: Provide advice regarding employment law, (including associated
case law), different theories and perspectives on employee relations and
employee body relationships, and the implications on people policies and
practices.
ILO 4: Identify legal risks arising from human resource management
decisions, providing advice to ensure organisations remain legally compliant in
their human resource management activities.
ILO 6: Critically discuss how the relationship between an organisation
and its people is managed through transparent practices and relevant law whilst
taking account of different theories and perspectives on employee relations.
Guidelines for assignment
Illustrate your answer with organisational examples.
You
should assume that the reader is already familiar with the principles of
employment law, so there is no need to describe or explain these. The focus
should be on your analysis, any critique you would like to make, and on
recommendations for changes either to the law or to your organisation’s HR practices.
You
may draw on ideas and literature from outside the legal field (e.g., economic,
social, ethical etc.) in developing your arguments, but please ensure that your
analysis focuses largely on UK law and not on the social problems that the law
seeks to address, nor on the law in other countries. Take care to justify any
proposals for legal reform clearly.
When citing court case judgements
in your writing there is no need to include the entire reference unless you
want to. All that is necessary is the date in the main text – i.e., Smith v
Jones et al (2018) – and then a list of cases in the bibliography at the end.
Referencing:
You must provide a list
of the articles and texts you have referred to. You should use the APA 7th system of referencing.
