This option involves using the research literature to learn about a relationship process and then
translating that information so that it can be shared with a general audience. The goal of this project
option is to think about how you can use expertise about relational processes learned from the research
literature to then share your knowledge in ways that are clear and relevant to others.
You will select a relational communication process to learn about and develop a literature review about
the relational process. Many aspects of relational communication can work for this project; a few
examples include break-ups (relational dissolution), jealousy in relationships, on-again/off-again
relationships, long-distance relationships, etc. Think about a topic that you would like to better
understand and that you also think would be of interest to a general audience.
You will develop your knowledge of this relationship topic by reading research literature on your topic as
a foundation for your project. You need to utilize 8-10 academic sources for this project so that you
have a good understanding of what research reveals about the process you are examining. Please note
that research literature refers to primary, academic sources, including articles from research journals
and academic books. (It does NOT include secondary sources such as magazines, newspapers,
textbooks, etc.) This literature review component of the project will be 7-8 pages in length.
Write a 7-8 page research paper about the relationship dynamics regarding friends with benefits.
