You can also discuss how these ideas evolve through 19th century europe. Enlightenement thinkers in the 18th and 19th century emphasized liberty and equal rights, in addition to the importance of reason, rather than faith. 

Pretend that you are walking i a museuem with a friend. You happen to come upon two works of art that reflect such ideas works from this chapter-or those listed on the page of “images related to 3.7”. You could also look into chapter 3.8 if that fits into your lesson plan. You need to teach your reader the evolution of thinking from the 1700s through the second half of the 1900s. If you go into the Modern Aesthetics, read through to the Fin De Siecle, French for the “End of the century”. 
For your friend this is a very new experience. They admittedly know little about art. They do not yet recognize how are emerges from a socieity and is influenced by the history from whcih it stems. You want to guide them, explaining thriugh these two works how they express Enlightenment thinking. You will do this by writting a short narrative or dialogue. Focus only on two works. One should be two-dimentsioal , such as a painting a prit or photograph. The second should be three-dimensional, such as a sculpture-or architecture-possible a structure that you happen to see out of the window of the room(the eiffel tower, monticello, versailles) or veven the space that you are walking through, like the Louvre or the Musee d’Orsay.
