Write an expository paper that provides an overview of some aspect of ancient Roman life. Some suggestions might be:
ancient Roman music, writing, or poetry (instruments, writers and kinds of writing, subject matter)
ancient Roman gender roles (public and private)
ancient Roman war tactics
ancient Roman architectural and engineering accomplishments (include photos of ruins, paintings, and/or recreations)
the role of ancient Roman rhetoric
ancient Roman gladiatorial games
ancient Roman mosaics and/or frescoes (techniques, subject matter, purpose)
ancient Roman baths (include photos of ruins, who it was built by, physical and social purposes, technical aspects of how the baths operated and what they provided)
life in ancient Roman Pompeii, before and after the eruption of Vesuvius (include photos of ruins, paintings, and/or recreations)
life in ancient Rome (include photos of ruins, paintings, and/or recreations)
Papers must contain at least two footnoted references/citations (No Wikipedia or encyclopedia articles), from two different sources. 12-point font (Times New Roman, Ariel, Calibri), double-space your paper, indent paragraphs, number the pages, and include a title page. Since you are using footnotes, a bibliography or Works Cited page is not required. A thesis statement is also required. It should be the last sentence of your introduction. For an expository paper, start with, “This paper will demonstrate . . . ” For an argumentative paper, “This paper will argue . . . “
Because Wikipedia is not attributable, you should never use it as a source. The Chicago Manual of Style is the writing guide used by professional historians.
