- Your essay should focus on the importance of representation in children’s literature specific to female gender.
- The essay must have a clear Three-Point Thesis Statement highlighted.
· Use at least four articles listed below and use one outside article (no blogs, websites, newspaper/magazine articles, etc.). A total of five scholarly sources are required.
- Remember, your paper must provide analysis of your topic as it relates to the importance of representation in children’s literature. Analyzing your topic through a “representation lens” of a specific population in children’s books needs to be the focal point of your essay.
- You are to use articles #1 & #2 below as the foundation of your essay.
- Keep your focus narrow. This is a short essay. The broader the topic, the more difficult to keep your essay focused. You do not have to cover everything on your topic!
- You must use four articles listed below for this essay with at one article of your choice.

Structure:
· This essay will function as a literature review. Literature reviews use secondary sources (the assigned articles), and do not report new or original experimental work. Meaning you are to use the research to make an argument, rather than stating your own opinion.
· All information you take from the articles must have a cited reference; in-text citations include direct quotes as well as paraphrasing (putting the information in your own words).
· Consistent use of your academic sources with citation throughout your essay.
· The reference page should adhere to APA format.
- Essays should be approximately 800 words (not including your reference page) and should not be substantially under or over the 800-word requirement.
- Essays should be double-spaced, times new roman font or arial.
· You do not need an abstract, a title page or running headers.
